Q 1. Is your University government approved?
Ans. Yes. It received approval of UGC and the Bangladesh Government on 31 May 2003.
Q 2. When did you commence your academic session?
Ans. Our first semester under Victoria University of Bangladesh (VUB) started from January 2004. Previously we had a partnership program with Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), New Zealand. Under the program students used to study first two years for the degree of Bachelor of Commerce and Administration awarded by VUW. The partnership program started from March 2001.
Q 3. Are there any other Victoria University?
Ans. Yes, besides this University, i.e., Victoria University of Bangladesh, there are: (1) Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and (2) Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia, (3) University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. There is also a Victoria College
in Comilla.
Q 4. What academic programs are you offering under VUB?
Ans. (Refer to VUB List of Program). We are due to offer 12 programs under six departments in three Faculties. But in our 1st semester, i.e., Spring 2004 semester beginning from January 2004, we could be offering only seven programs, as under:
(1) BBA (Honours)
(2) MBA Regular [evening classes]
(3) Executive MBA [evening classes]
(4) Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management (Honours)
(5) BSc in Computer Science and Engineering (Honours)
(6) BA (Honours) in English
(7) MA in English
Q 5. How is the fee structure for BBA?
Ans. Fees for BBA is :
Admission fee : Tk. 10,000/- (one time)
Session fee : Tk. 1,100/- (per semester)
Tuition fee : Tk. 1,667/- per credit
This is a 12 semester course requiring 4 years to complete 126 credits.

Q 6. What is special about VUB?
Ans. As you can see fees at VUB is pretty low as compared to many other universities. In addition, we offer very attractive supports for students pursuing undergraduate/graduate programs here at VUB.
These
are scholarships :
A. For Bachelor’s degree
(1) A scholarship equal to 100% tuition fee for candidates securing GPA of 5.0 (marks 80%+) in both SSC and HSC, or equivalent.
(2)
A Scholarship equal to 50% tuition fee for candidates securing GPA of 5.0 (marks 80% +) in SSC or HSC, or equivalent.
(3)
A Scholarship equal to 40% tuition fee for candidates securing GPA of 3.5 (marks 60-69%) in both SSC and HSC, or equivalent.
B. For Master’s degree
A scholarship equal to 40% of tuition fee for those securing minimum two First Divisions/Classes.
Interest free study loan
Interest free study loan 50%-70% of tuition fee for those without scholarship and ask for it. The study loan is repayable in easy monthly installments within a period of five years for Bachelor’s program and three years for Master’s program, beginning with the 6th month after completing the course.
High quality education of International Standard
VUB provides high quality education through judicious selection of teachers, appropriate course design and support services including student counseling and monitoring. Most of our teachers are foreign degree and PhD holders.
Intensive English language courses
VUB provides 207 hours of free teaching out of a total of 315 hours of intensive English language course. The courses are designed to significantly improve English language skills of all students in all our undergraduate programs.
Q 7. Do you accept credit transfer?
Ans. Yes, we accept credit transfer from other universities and from one department to another at VUB. We have already initiated a process for securing transfer of our students to reputed foreign universities abroad with credits earned at VUB.
Q 8. What is the admission requirement for the BBA/MBA program?
Ans. For BBA or any other undergraduate program, the entry requirement is HSC or equivalent in the related area. In order to be eligible for admission, a student must secure a minimum of second division or equivalent at all levels. A student with third division at any level is not considered for admission. The equivalent GPA score is 2.5 in both SSC and HSC (under a five point scale) or GCE O-Level in three subjects with GPA of 2.5 or above, and A-Level in two subjects with GPA of 2.0 ( in the scale of A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1). For a Master’s program the entry requirement is a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education in the respective area.
Prescribed Application for Admission Form is available in the website, as well as in the information desk. All applications must be supported by the following documents:
(1)
Attested copy of the certificate and Marks sheet of SSC examination or equivalent.
(2)
Attested copy of the certificate and Marks sheet of HSC examination or equivalent.
(3) One stamp size and four attested passport size photographs. One of the passport size photographs will be returned to the candidate to be produced for his/her identification when necessary.
A student must complete registration at the beginning of each semester. Normal course load for a undergraduate/graduate program is 3-5 courses or 9 to 15 grade points.
Q 09. Who are your faculty members?
Ans. We have a number of in house full time faculty members. Most of them have degrees from abroad. We draw on the part-time services of reputed teachers from Dhaka University, IBA, BUET and Jahangirnagar University. All faculty members for MBA/EMBA are Ph.D. degree holders (Refer to the VUB List of Teachers).
Q 10. Do you have any other campus?
Ans. At present we have only this campus at Barek Mansion, 58/11/A Panthapath. Soon we will have another campus at Dhanmondi. Currently we have three floors in this building at Panthapath. The Panthapath campus will also be expanded by renting additional floors from the adjacent building.
Q 11. What are the courses that you are offering for BBA (Honours)?

Q 12. Do you have any general education (GED) courses?
Ans. Yes, we have a number of GED courses, which constitute around 25% of the total course load in each undergraduate program. The GED courses are designed to ensure that the students are exposed to a broad range of areas other than their major subject. Thus the GED courses which also include intensive English language courses and some other foundation courses, help students understand the diversity of approaches to knowledge, expand perceptions, attitudes and abilities in areas regarded as integral to a collegiate education, and acquire a broad perspective against which they may view their own specialized studies. Besides the GED courses, there are the optional courses, pre-requisite courses, core courses and specialization courses which the students are required to complete.
Q 13. What do you mean by intensive English language program?
Ans. As the English language skills of the undergraduate students is generally poor across the board, it is our endeavour to improve this very essential skills of our students through the provision of concentrated class room lectures/English language lab facilities in the very first semester of all undergraduate programs. Under this program, three English language courses - ENG 101, ENG 106 and ENG 116 - are held every day, five days a week with a duration 1.5 hours per lecture/lab work. This program will be on for a duration of 14 weeks. This will provide for a total of 315 class hours, out of which 207 class hours are arranged by VUB free of charge.
Q 14. What lab facilities do you have?
Ans. Currently we have a computer lab with 20 computers, with provision of internet facilities. Other lab facilities will be added.

Ans. Yes, we have a library with over 2500 titles. |
